UPDATE: Pig ear recall continues to claim victims

A few weeks ago, we talked about the pig ears recall due to salmonella contamination. At this point, 93 people from 27 states are infected with salmonella, and 20 are hospitalized. If you’ve got pig ears at home for your doggos, you should probably toss them.

Dogs overheating in cars (even with AC on)

We’ve spoken about how dangerous it can be to leave a dog in a hot car, and it’s important to note that even if the air conditioning is running, that doesn’t necessarily mean your dog is safe.

Non-Profit of the week

This week’s non-profit is Big Fluffy Dog Rescue, headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. While officially dedicated to helping big, fluffy dogs, such as Great Pyrenees, Saint Bernards, and Newfoundlands, they also support “honorary fluffies” who need the help. They rescue dogs from high-kill shelters, owners who can’t care for them, and other less-than ideal situations, with a goal to rehabilitate the doggos so they can live in safe, happy homes where they’re accepted as members of the family. You can read more about them at their website:

Ms. Harendorf links yoga to reductions in stress hormones, like cortisol, and blood pressure. “People always ask me, ‘Do dogs need yoga?’ ” she said. “I say, ‘No, you need yoga. But your dog needs your attention, and bonding with your pet is good for your health.’ ”
